Limestone Branch Distillery (Lebanon, KY) has announced the second release in its Yellowstone Special Finishes Collection: Yellowstone Rum Cask Finish. This is the latest inspiration from Limestone Branch Distillery Master Distiller Stephen Beam, and it is set to hit retail shelves in March. Aged four years and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV), Yellowstone Rum Cask Finish will be available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $49.99 per 750-ml bottle.

The new release starts with Yellowstone’s traditional bourbon mash bill and then is aged for nine weeks in casks that previously held rum distilled using molasses from sugarcane grown in the rich, fertile soils and tropical Caribbean climate of Cuba. Per the brand, the resulting bourbon features a flavorful blend of spice and tropical sweetness; a medium body with notes of toasted marshmallow, crème brûlée and toffee toasted oak; and the finish is highlighted by tobacco, clove, cocoa seasoned oak and honey.

“Rum has the sweetest notes of all the casks we’ve used for secondary finishing, and it was an ideal choice for the next adventure in our Special Finishes Collection,” said Beam. “Rum is an exceptional compliment to bourbon, and they come together to create subtle notes of sweetness and brown sugar, which are soaked up and stored within the staves and perfectly complement the vanilla, caramel and rye flavors of Yellowstone. Our four-year bourbon is a classic Kentucky bourbon and makes for a fantastic base. This allows me to go in many directions with the finishes while remaining true to or original profile.”

The packaging for Yellowstone Special Finishes Collection features the brand’s iconic bottle and Roosevelt Arch artwork, as well as a more prominent version of the Yellowstone brand name and a Special Finishes Collection call-out. The bottle’s blue top-wrap helps to differentiate Yellowstone Rum Cask Finish from other Yellowstone variants. The Special Finishes Collection launched in October of 2023 with the release of Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Toasted Staves.

Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Toasted Staves – the first release within the brand’s Special Finishes Collection and the latest inspiration from Limestone Branch Distillery Master Distiller Stephen Beam – is set to hit retail shelves in October. Aged four years and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV), Yellowstone Toasted will be available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $49.99 per 750-ml bottle.

Yellowstone Toasted starts with the brand’s traditional bourbon mash bill, which is then stave finished. Beam, a seventh-generation master distiller, hand-selected a combination of five different staves – high toast, American oak double-toast, vanilla, rick house and spice rack – to get the desired flavor profile.

TASTING NOTES (Brand Provided): The resulting bourbon features a nose of toasted caramel and vanilla with hints of fall spices and cinnamon; a medium body with notes of walnut, toffee, black tea and white pepper; and a crisp finish highlighted by cocoa, tobacco and oak.

“The Yellowstone Special Finishes Collection is a great way to honor more than 150 years of bourbon heritage while still keeping things fresh and exciting,” said Beam. “I began experimenting with toasted barrels in 2016, 2017, and 2018 with Yellowstone Limited Edition releases and again more recently with distillery-exclusive Yellowstone Toasted Single Barrel. My experience helped in crafting what stave flavors to use and at what percentage to get the right flavor profile for Yellowstone Toasted. I can’t wait for consumers to try this latest full-time member of the Yellowstone Bourbon family.”

Limestone Branch Master Distiller Stephen Beam announces 2023 Yellowstone® Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Latest expression offers a delicately balanced blend of 7-year, 13-year and 16-year aged bourbons, finished in Tokaji casks

Limestone Branch Distillery's Master Distiller, Steve Beam, is thrilled to announce the release of the highly anticipated 2023 edition of Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This special bourbon has been expertly crafted by blending bourbons aged for 7, 13, and 16 years, and then finishing them in unique Tokaji casks. Bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV), this limited release consists of only 10,000 cases, each containing three 750 ml bottles. Starting this August, bourbon enthusiasts across the nation can get their hands on a bottle for the suggested retail price of $99.99.

Steve Beam, known for his exceptional taste and skill, personally handpicked the three aged bourbons for this limited edition release. These bourbons were then carefully combined and aged in Tokaji casks. Tokaji is a special sweet wine made from white-wine grapes found in Hungary's Tokaji region. These casks add a remarkable complexity and layered flavors to the bourbon, enhancing its overall quality.

"When creating the Yellowstone Limited Edition, my goal is to find a finish that I personally enjoy and believe will result in a delicious, well-balanced bourbon," shared Beam. "This year, I discovered the perfect finish in the Tokaji casks from northern Hungary. When you savor this bourbon, expect enticing aromas of honey, green grapes, and freshly baked cinnamon. Its body boasts dry spice, followed by notes of caramel, dark cherry, citrus, and a hint of white pepper. The finish brings forth hints of dry tobacco, honeysuckle, and smoky oak. Fans of Yellowstone Limited Edition bourbons are in for a real treat!"

The 2023 Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is presented in beautifully designed bottles with embossing, adorned with a premium natural cork and label displaying the 2023 Yellowstone Limited Edition emblem, along with the bold callout of its 101-proof strength.

As he has done with his limited-edition Yellowstone Bourbon offerings since 2015, Beam hand selected the three aged bourbons, which were then blended and finished in Tokaji casks. Tokaji is a traditional sweet wine from the Tokaji region of Hungary made exclusively from white-wine grapes. Tokaji wines are known as much for their complex, layered flavor profiles as they are for their sweetness.

“With each year’s Yellowstone Limited Edition offering, I seek a finish that I both personally love and believe will make for a flavorful, well-balanced bourbon. This year, I found the perfect finish in the Tokaji casks sourced from northern Hungary,” said Beam. “Consumers can expect aromas of honey, green grapes and freshly baked cinnamon; a body highlighted by dry spice, followed by caramel, dark cherry, citrus and white pepper; and a finish containing notes of dry tobacco, honeysuckle and smoky oak. Fans of Yellowstone Limited Edition offerings will have a new contender for their favorite!”

Yellowstone Bourbon

Press Release: Provided by Limestone Branch Distillery

Limestone Branch Distillery is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Yellowstone bourbon brand by debuting the Yellowstone Select Landmark Edition Bottle series, featuring six different scenes from the national park that inspired the brand.

Available now at retail, bottles of Yellowstone Select Bourbon feature one of six famous park landmarks:

  • Lower Yellowstone Falls (original image)
  • Old Faithful
  • Grand Prismatic Spring
  • Minerva Terrace
  • Roosevelt Arch
  • Lamar Valley

Named after the country’s very first national park, Yellowstone bourbon was introduced in 1872 to honor the park’s remarkable beauty and pioneering spirit. Limestone Branch Distillery has continued the tradition of supporting the park through its ongoing partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), an independent organization working to strengthen and protect our national parks. To date, Limestone Branch has donated nearly $210,000 to the organization, and from Jan. 1 – Nov 30, 2022, Limestone Branch will donate $1.50 to NPCA for each bottle of Yellowstone Whiskey sold, representing a guaranteed donation up to $30,000.

“We’re proud of our brand’s long history honoring its namesake national park, and we are thrilled to pay further tribute through our Yellowstone Select Bourbon Landmark Edition Bottle series,” said Limestone Branch Brand Manager Caitlin Palmieri Jackson. “Our iconic label featuring the Lower Yellowstone Falls has created a connection with fans of both our brand and the park. The Landmark Edition Bottle series was created to expand upon that connection, as the different landmarks are likely to inspire different memories among consumers of the brand, who are now able to choose the bottle/label that is most special to them.”

Limestone Branch Distillery has produced a limited number of cases featuring a random assortment of all six Landmark Edition Bottle labels. Yellowstone Select Landmark Edition bottles will be available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $39.99 until supplies last.
