Kentucky state is about to increase its whisky output as two experienced whisky makers are uniting efforts to launch a new distillery. Caleb Kilburn, a master distiller of Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co, is joining the corporation’s chief operation officer, Cordell Lawrence to found Eastern Light Distillery,
Both will leave their current roles to embark on an investment portfolio of $143.7 million. The project will be starting from zero and will be located in Rowan County near the town of Morehead, close to Lexington.
However, the business dou is not thinking of inventing their own whisky Instead they will trend Eastern Light as a contract distiller for craft whiskey makers. Although the step assures Peerless of not having to compete with its former lead staff, the model is not new. Many other companies, such as Bardstown Bourbon Co. and MGP, already offer whisky outsourcing services.
There is no haste to leave. Both workers will remain employed at Peerless Distillery while the mega capacity (of up to 90,000 barrels annually) is being constructed.
The local community will expect a job boost of 50 permanent posts, without including the temporal jobs used for the construction. Another positive is all investors are members of the community.
