2024 is only days away and beer behemoth Molson Coors is providing rides – via a big bus – for New Year’s Eve revelers celebrating the coming of the new year in seven cities.

Those seven cities seeing a blue bus in their midst will be Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Milwaukee, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Phoenix. For each of those cities, Molson Coors will be collaborating with each city’s public transit systems as part of their Free Rides program which aims to provide fare-free rides on New Year’s Eve and give drinkers in each city a way to pursue responsible transportation and avoid drunk driving.

Molson Coors is encouraging New Year’s Eve revelers in each city to visit that city’s public transit website, review routes and make any potential arrangements before midnight arrives on December 31, 2023.

Molson Coors has offered their “Free Rides” programs in nine cities during 2023, including St. Patrick’s Day, and is expected to continue the program into 2024.

WhiskyCritic dabbled in some of the holiday offerings recently and one of those was the appropriately named Ben Holladay Missouri Straight Bourbon Whiskey from the Holladay Distillery in Weston, Missouri.

The bourbon has already won some awards and WC was eager to give it a try. The bourbon stacks up nicely against some of the other well-known brands in the category [WC will not name names here, everybody who drinks bourbon knows which brands are the most popular] but not quite at the top of the mountain.

The Ben Holladay Missouri Straight Bourbon Whiskey was a bit aggressive in our tasting sample – and some people find that attribute something they look forward to – however, WC felt it could have taken off some of the edge and still been a pleasant experience. The harsher-than-expected entry sips took some elements away from the long-term smoother finish – Ben Holladay did calm down after awhile and was a pleasant libation for the holidays.

Overall, the Ben Holladay Missouri Straight Bourbon Whiskey was a winner – just not an overwhelming, doing backflips of joy-type winner – and WC would award it an 83 on a scale of 100.

The percentage of Bacardi’s ownership stake was undisclosed but founders Jack and Stephen Teeling will continue to own a percentage of the business and run day-to-day operations.

Bacardi initially invested in The Teeling Whiskey Company in June 2017 and – beginning in January 2024 – Teeling will be distributed by Bacardi in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK with Sweden to be added in February and Belgium currently scheduled to be added in March.

Back in 2018, a curious pair of words cemented themselves into the Wild Turkey vernacular: Camp Nelson. While Wild Turkey had been aging whiskey in Jessamine County for many years, it wasn’t until those barrels hit the private-barrel program that the maturation campus received the credit it was due.
