UK-based actor and comedian Ricky Gervais [“The Office”] has become the latest celebrity to collaborate with a distillery – this time, UK-based [North Yorkshire] Ellers Farm Distillery – to promote products that will include a single malt whisky. With his investment, Gervais becomes co-owner of the distillery.

B Corp-certified Ellers Farm Distillery’s current main claim to fame is their Dutch Barn vodka.

Gervais had been searching to invest in a sustainable spirits business opportunity and B Corp-certified Ellers Farm Distillery fit that bill with the bonus virtue of operating with a profit-sharing plan that gives 20% of the company’s revenue back to their employees. British Virgin Islands-based investment company, AIG Holdings, has also invested in Ellers Farm Distillery as part of the deal.

“I’d been looking to invest in eco-friendly businesses for a while and as soon as I found Dutch Barn – I wanted in,” said Gervais in a press release. “I love the planet and I love a drink so it was the perfect combination. “On a serious note Dutch Barn really is a quality product. I love the fact that it’s done differently and I can’t wait to let everyone know about it.”

As part of the deal, Gervais has been given carte blanche to make Ellers Farm Distillery and the Dutch Barn brand a so-called “global brand”.

“The exciting part for me is that I’ve been promised that I can try to make it a global brand in my own way. Something I can’t help but think they will regret,” jokes Gervais.
