Bruichladdich Distillery has released Octomore 14 – their annual trio of heavily-peated single malts – consisting of the Octomore 14.1, 14.2 and 14.3 – which have been released since 2008. All three Bruichladdich Octomore single malts are matured for five years, bottled ‘close to cask strength’ and are always heavily peated [to a whopping 309 PPM, making them the most heavily peated whiskies in the world].

Bruichladdich Octomore 14.1 originates from 100% Scottish barley and malted to 128.9 PPM (phenol parts per million), matured in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, bottled at 59.6% alcohol by volume [119.2 proof] and is said to offer notes of caramel, citrus and vanilla along with the usual peat smoke. Bruichladdich Octomore 14.1 is being made available for $175 per bottle.

Bruichladdich Octomore 14.2 is also from 100% Scottish barley and malted to 128.9 PPM, but was matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry and Amarone wine casks, bottled at 57.7% alcohol by volume [115.4 proof] and is said to offer notes of coffee, fruitcake and red currants to go along with its peat smoke. Bruichladdich Octomore 14.2 is being made available for $195 per bottle.

Bruichladdich Octomore 14.3 comes from locally grown barley, was malted to 214.2 PPM, matured in both ex-bourbon casks along with second-fill wine casks and bottled at 61.4% alcohol by volume [122.8 proof] and is said to offer notes of toffee and vanilla with its peat smoke. Bruichladdich Octomore 14.3 is being made available for $245 per bottle.

All three Octomore 14 series single malts are available at the official Bruichladdich website [bruichladdich.com].
