My Old Kentucky Dinner Train

Elegant Excursions on My Old Kentucky Dinner Train

My Old Kentucky Dinner Train had its inaugural run in 1988 along the 20-mile stretch through the countryside. The Budd Company constructed the two steel-skirted train cars in the late 1940s. R. J. Corman Railroad Company has since refurbished them into the beautiful dining cars you’ll experience today, pulled by F-unit locomotives.

Here are our three favorite excursions on the My Old Kentucky Dinner Train:

  • Dinner Excursion: While they offer a lunch excursion as well, we prefer the two-and-a-half-hour evening ride through the Kentucky countryside. You’ll pass by standout sites like the Jim Beam distillery, Jesse James’ safe house, and the Jackson Hollow Trestle in the Bernheim Forest on the 32-mile trip. All while enjoying a four-course meal carefully prepared by the talented onboard chef team. The menu changes seasonally, but expect options like tender prime rib and pan-seared salmon.
  • Bourbon Excursion: For those who want to indulge in Bardstown’s signature beverage, the Bourbon Excursion offers the same gourmet four-course meal but with the addition of a whisky tasting led by a master distiller. All meals come with freshly baked rolls, their signature golden spike salad, and your choice of seasonal dessert. For those going all out, My Old Kentucky Dinner Train also offers add-ons of a charcuterie board, shrimp cocktail, or custom floral arrangements for a reasonable extra fee. They also provide a wine excursion for those who prefer vino!
  • Murder Mystery Excursion by Murder and Merriment: If you’re ready to use your imagination and immerse yourself in a story of intrigue, the Murder Mystery Excursion is a unique and memorable experience. Dine, drink, and put your brain to the test while trying to solve the case of the train car mystery. It’s a ride through the countryside that you won’t soon forget!
