Mordecai, a favorite neighborhood Wrigleyville bar & restaurant, is located inside Hotel Zachary and directly across from Wrigley Field.

Their menu features a blend of traditional American classics and reimagined favorites, with a particular focus by Chef Matthias Merges on sourcing fresh, local ingredients.

The seasonal bar menu offers something for everyone, from classic cocktails, to local beer and some of Mordecai’s favorite wines. In addition to their bar menu, they have a back bar featuring one of the country’s most interesting collections of vintage and rare spirits, with a focus on rare bourbon.

Check them out on this year’s Best Bourbon Bar’s list.

The Kentucky Stinger comes to us from Corban Kell of Mordecai. A Kentucky-twist on a pre-prohibition classic and the perfect sip for the weekend.

The recipe is a classic pre-Prohibition-style Old Fashioned, but one of the things that makes the Bourbon Steak Old Fashioned unique is the use of saline or salt water to help elevate the flavors and create a distinct profile for the Old Fashioned.

INGREDIENTS:

☐ 2 Ounces Buffalo Trace Bourbon
☐ ½ Ounce simple syrup
☐ 3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
☐ 1 Dash Saline

Add a large ice cube or ice of choice to a rocks glass. Add all ingredients to the rocks glass and stir. Garnish with an orange twist.

Recipe by Cami Buracker of Vault & Cellar (Middletown, VA), recently named one of America’s Best Bourbon Bars 2022.

From Vault & Cellar: Pot Likker (or Pot Liquor), if you’ve never heard of it, is the juices from cooking collard greens. This recipe came about, as all good things do, by playing around with things we had in house; Our collard greens carry a deep, smoky, bacon-y kick with a solid punch of vinegar, and a bloody Mary felt like a natural marriage here. We often joke that we could just drink the pot likker (who am I kidding, we do) but having it as part of a cocktail makes it feel a touch more appropriate.

Ingredients:

-1.5 oz Bacon Washed Buffalo Trace Bourbon
-1 oz ‘pot likker’ – or the liquid from cooked collard greens
-Clark & Hopkins Chesapeake Bloody Mary mix
-Cajun seasoning and lime juice for rim
-Bacon
-House made pickles

Instructions:

1. Rim Collins glass with lime and Cajun seasoning
2. Fill glass to the top with ice
3. add bourbon and pot likker
4. top with Bloody Mary mix
5. Garnish with bacon, cooked collards, and skewered pickles
