Haunted Places in Kentucky

While, of course, Bardstown is known around the world for its bourbon, we’re also one of the most haunted places in Kentucky! As the second oldest town in the Bluegrass State, our more than 200-year history is full of interesting people, mysterious stories, and dark tales. You’ll find multiple historical sites, museums, and points of interest in the area to visit during your stay, many with a narrative best told in the autumn moonlight.

One of the best places to stay in Bardstown, especially for those interested in the area’s rich history, is the Bourbon Manor Bed and Breakfast. Our Inn dates back to the late 18th century. Throughout the years, the Manor has been a private residence, a boarding home during the Great Depression, split up as apartment units, and has now operated as a Bed & Breakfast for more than 25 years. The common rooms and luxurious guest suites have been meticulously renovated and updated while keeping the original architectural details in mind.

Haunted Places in Kentucky: Bardstown Ghost Trek

If you want to experience one of the most haunted places in Kentucky up-close and personal, grab a tour with Bardstown Ghost Trek. This local company is celebrating 25 years of taking novice ghost hunters and thrill-seekers around town to the best sites in Bardstown for possible sightings. The tour begins at the Talbott Tavern, dating back to the late 1700s, known as the oldest stagecoach stop in the west. This building has a rich history of travelers from across the country and many notable ghost sightings.

Next on the tour is the historic Jailor’s Inn, which was included on the Travel Channel‘s “10 Most Haunted Places in America.” The jail operated from 1797 to 1987, housing some of the most notorious criminals, and now serves as a haunted bed and breakfast. Next, you’ll head to the Pioneer Cemetery just behind the Inn, where you’ll take a stroll through the gravestones at dark. The perfect backdrop (and likely one of the most haunted places in Kentucky) for a possible spine-tingling experience on a crisp Fall night.

The guided walking tour takes place every Saturday night from June through October from 8 to 9:30 pm.

Islay distillery Ardbeg officially hops on the Halloween promotional bandwagon with their Monster Ice Scream Truck Tour, which begins today and will travel to three UK cities serving special edition treats through Halloween [October 31].

The Ardbeg Monster Ice Scream Truck Tour will travel to Edinburgh, Glasgow and London offering three exclusive ice cream serves – all of which can be made with or without Ardbeg’s single malt Scotch whisky – along the way.

The ice creams to be served by the truck will include Cookies & Scream: Ardbeg Wee Beastie ice cream sandwiched between charcoal cookies, and coated in ‘crunchy mealworms’; the Ahhh, No! Bar: Lapsang Souchong ice cream with an Ardbeg An Oa caramel center coated in white chocolate; Ice Cream Groan: a charcoal cone filled with Ardbeg Ten smoky blackcurrant ice cream, and topped with sour cherries and topped with “insect-flecked” bits.

More specifically, the Ardbeg Monster Ice Scream Truck Tour will be stopping at Covent Garden Piazza [London] today and tomorrow, then move on to Drygate Brewery in Glasgow for a stop on October 29, 2021 and finally coming to rest [in peace] in Edinburgh at the St. James Quarter on October 30, 2021 before finding its final resting place on Castle Street on Halloween.

The ice cream portion of the offerings are a result of Ardbeg’s collaboration with artisanal ice cream parlor Ruby Violet – where all three ice creams are currently available at the King’s Cross Coal Drops Yard outlet in London.

The truck features horns, tentacles and beady eyes, and visitors can also book a 45-minute slot in an extension of the spooky-themed truck, a ‘Monster of Smoke cage’, which allows “victims” to try ice cream and cocktails.

Those cocktails include the Cherry Lipsmacker, a Halloween-themed version of the classic whisky and cola; the Begroni, a serve made with Ardbeg Wee Beastie; and a New Fashioned, made using Ardbeg Ten Years Old.

Black Irish is preparing for this weekend’s Halloween festivities with a promotion to implore legal age consumers to “don’t be afraid of the dark” and consider celebrating Halloween with their whiskey-and-stout spirit drink.

Black Irish is triple-distilled Irish whiskey, matured in deep-charred American ex-bourbon casks, infused with a blend of stout and barrel-aged stout before being bottled at 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof).

Black Irish is not to be confused with the same-named brand of cream liqueurs owned by singer Mariah Carey and with whom Black Irish is currently embroiled in a trademark battle.
