Woodford has announced their latest Distillery Series release called Toasted Oak Oat Grain. This new release will be available starting today (June 7) starting at 10am at the distillery located in Versailles, Kentucky. 

From what I gather, this is an oat grain mashbill aged in a regular charred barrel and then aged again in a new toasted oak barrel. No age statement or price was provide. It comes with the following tasting notes:

Nose: Well done cinnamon raisin oatmeal cookie dusted with cocoa, dark chocolate shavings and drizzled with dark molasses.

Taste: Sharp spice notes of clove, cinnamon and nutmeg merge with citrus and a very dark chocolate character.

Finish: Dry with a chocolate bitters hint.

My Take

For those unfamiliar with the Distillery Series, these are bottles that are usually only available directly at the distillery and are unique and rare blends. I have a half bottle (375ml) of Woodford Double Double Oaked, which I've been saving for a special occasion. If you are at the distillery, take a look at what's available (if anything) and it's worth picking up if you have any interest at all.

Woodford has announced the limited release of the 2021 Double Double Oaked bourbon, available exclusively at the Woodford Distillery (limit 2 per person) starting February 1. New this year is a sweepstakes for people who can't make it to the distillery on opening day (more on that below). 

Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked starts in standard new oak barrels and finished in heavy toasted new oak barrels. This results in a bourbon that is spicier in character than Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.

As mentioned above, there is also a sweepstakes to have the opportunity to purchase one bottle at the distillery for those who can’t make it to the release (which is all of us since it was yesterday). The sweepstakes is open from January 31, 2022 at 9 AM ET through 11:59 PM ET on February 8, 2022. Winners will be notified by email on or about February 10, 2022. Prize will be available to be collected from February 10, 2022, through April 10, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET. You can enter the sweepstakes at this link. MSRP is $49.99. 

My Take

I actually picked up a bottle of the Double Double Oaked the last time I visited the Woodford Distillery years ago. My plan is to do a review at some point comparing it to regular Woodford and Woodford Double Oaked. If you are planning a trip to Kentucky before April 10th, I think it's worth an entry to the sweepstakes, and if you see this at the Distillery, I'd recommend picking it up.
