The Glasgow Distillery has released a trio of single malt whiskies finished in Cognac, Tokaji and Innis & Gunn Golden Beer casks for their small-batch series.
The Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled Cognac Cask Finish was matured a minimum of five years, initially in ex-bourbon casks for nearly three of those years before being finished for the final stint in French Cognac puncheons, bottled at 52% alcohol by volume [104 proof] and is said to offer notes of apple and pear.
The Glasgow 1770 Peated Tokaji Finish, bottled at 53.4% ABV, spent the first three years of its existence in virgin American white oak before moving on to Hungarian Tokaji hogshead casks for two years, then being bottled at 53.4% alcohol by volume [106.8 proof] and is said to offer notes of apricot, cashew, dark chocolate, honey and orange.
The Glasgow 1770 Golden Beer Cask Finish was matured in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for a full year – in casks previously used to mature Innis & Gunn’s beer – bottled at 58% alcohol by volume [116 proof] and is said to offer notes of cherry, orange and vanilla. Additionally, the whisky is packaged with a bottle of Innis & Gunn PX Finish for comparison purposes.
Only 1,576 bottles of Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled Cognac Cask Finish, 615 of Glasgow 1770 Peated Tokaji Cask Finish and 340 bottles of Glasgow 1770 Golden Beer Cask Finish are being made available for $70 per bottle for the first two and $75 per bottle for the latter.
