Islay distillery Ardbeg has released a limited edition single malt – Heavy Vapours – to celebrate the 2023 Fèis Ìle music and malt festival.

Ardbeg is known for their normally peat-y whiskies, however, Ardbeg Heavy Vapours has been distilled without a purifier – the device on a still responsible for maintaining the brand’s balance between extreme peat and floral fruitiness – and, as a result, is said to offer notes of cardamom, dark chocolate and peppermint.

Ardbeg Heavy Vapours has been released in conjunction with the 2023 Fèis Ìle Festival, which runs from May 26 to June 3, 2023 – with Ardbeg Day held on the last Saturday of the event (June 3).

Ardbeg Heavy Vapours is being made available for $150 per bottle from the official website [ardbeg.com] and from the distillery visitor center.

Laphroaig has released the 2022 edition of their Càirdeas whisky as part of this year’s Islay Fèis Ìle whisky festival.

Laphroaig Càirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1 was matured in first-fill Maker’s Mark Bourbon casks then aged in Laphroaig’s nearly-200-year-old Warehouse 1, bottled at 52.8% alcohol by volume [105.6 proof] and is said to contain notes of fudge, honey, licorice, nutmeg, peat, smoke, walnut and white pepper.

Laphroaig Cáirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1 whisky is being made available for $115 per 700 ml bottle via the official Laphroaig site.

Islay distillery Ardbeg has released a limited edition single malt called Ardcore for this year’s Fèis Ìle [Festival of Music and Malt] festival. ‘Ardcore will be released to commemorate Ardbeg Day – which is held on the final Saturday of the Fèis Ìle – which runs from May 27 to June 4, 2022. Ardbeg Day (June 4) will have festivities take place at the distillery, online and at local events worldwide.

‘Ardcore – inspired from the area’s 1970s punk past, when Islay’s main port, Port Ellen, went by the nickname ‘Punk Ellen’ – was created with roasted black malt, bottled at 46% alcohol by volume [92 proof] and is said to contain notes of black heart and spiky ball [actually…anise, charcoal, dark chocolate, lime, peanut brittle, soot and toffee].

Ardbeg ‘Ardcore single malt whisky is being made available for $130 per bottle.
