Islay distillery, Bruichladdich, has added a super-heavily peated single malt whisky to their Octomore 15 Series.

Bruichladdich Octomore Series 15 Ten Aged Years has been distilled from 100% Scottish Concerto barley and malted to 107 PPM, bottled at 52.2% alcohol by volume [104.4 proof] and is said to offer notes of cinnamon, coffee and, of course, Octomore’s signature peat smoke.

Bruichladdich Octomore Series 15 Ten Aged Years is being made available for $225 per bottle at the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay or online at bruichladdich.com.

Speyside distillery, The Glenrothes, has debuted a 15-year-old single malt whisky to add to their core range, joining the existing 18- and 25-year-old whiskies.

The Glenrothes 15-Year-Old was matured exclusively in European oak sherry-seasoned casks, bottled at 43% alcohol by volume [86 proof] and is said to offer notes of dark chocolate, ginger, orange marmalade, pears and pecan pie.

The Glenrothes 15-Year-Old is being made available in the UK for $130 per bottle.

Speyside distillery Tamdhu has released Cigar Malt IV – the fourth addition to their Cigar Malt single malt batch series.

Tamdhu Cigar Malt IV was matured in both Oloroso sherry casks and first-fill European oak sherry casks, bottled at 53.8% alcohol by volume [107.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of crème brûlée, ginger and plum and is, of course, designed to accompany a premium cigar.

Tamdhu Cigar Malt IV is being made available for $305 per bottle.

Bacardi-owned Speyside distillery Aultmore has completed an expansion – adding three new warehouses to their maturation and blending facility in Glasgow.

In addition to Aultmore, Bacardi also boasts a portfolio of single malt whiskies including Aberfeldy, Craigellachie, Royal Brackla and The Deveron, as well as blended Scotch brand Dewar’s.

The three new state-of-the-art maturing warehouses were added to the 200-acre blending and maturation center, increasing capacity by more than 15%.

The new warehouses come on the heels of last month’s Aultmore Distillery expansion which included a new tun room, still house, boiler house and closed-loop cooling tower, effectively doubling Aultmore’s production capacity.

London-based Berry Bros & Rudd has released Coasts & Shores – the second installment of their A Sense of Place whisky collection, with this installment celebrating 25 whiskies from 12 worldwide coastal distilleries.

Berry Bros & Rudd’s Coasts & Shores includes whiskies from the famous coastal distillery locales such as Islay, famed for its smoky and peaty profiles [in this case, a whisky finished in Oloroso sherry] to more unique coastal distilleries such as Sweden’s Smögen Distillery [which is said to offer notes of Scandinavian coastal smoke along with brine and minerals].

Additional notable whisky distilleries included are Caol Ila, a Barolo-finished whisky from The Dalmore and Japan’s Sakurao Distillery, located in the coastal town of Hatsukaichi, Japan, with the single cask bottling distilled and matured at the distillery on the shores of Hiroshima Bay.

All 25 whiskies in Berry Bros & Rudd’s Coasts & Shores Collection are being made available from $90-$290 per bottle in a variety of markets including the UK and selected international markets.

Islay distillery Bunnahabhain has released a 21-year-old single malt finished in Pedro Ximenez casks as the first whisky in their new cask-strength range.

Bunnahabhain 21-Year-Old Pedro Ximénez (PX) Cask Finish is made by combining 21 casks from the distillery’s coastal warehouse no.9 and was initially aged in ex-Oloroso sherry butts before being finished for 21 months in PX sherry casks, then bottled at 53.6% alcohol by volume [107.2 proof] and is said to offer notes of berries, figs, nuts and molasses.

Only 2,682 bottles of Bunnahabhain 21-Year-Old Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish are being made available worldwide for $360 per bottle.

Highland-based distillery, The Dalmore, has collaborated with design museum V&A Dundee on the Portfolio Series – a new whisky series designed to celebrate young Scottish artists. The first entry in the Portfolio Series comprises a trio of single malt whiskies. Edinburgh-based artist, Fraser Gray, was selected for this year’s edition, with his interpretation of The Dalmore distillery.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series No 1 (bottled at 46.8% alcohol by volume, 93.6 proof) was matured in Bordeaux wine casks and is said to contain notes of lemon, Manuka honey and vanilla. Only 5,000 bottles are being made available for $635 per bottle.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series No 2 (bottled at 46% alcohol by volume, 92 proof) was finished in casks from Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France and is said to offer notes of cranberry, licorice, ginger, pink grapefruit and vanilla. Only 2,000 bottles are being made available for $950 per bottle.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series No.3 is said to contain notes of bergamot, cedar and dark cacao and The Dalmore was granted access to an ‘iconic vineyard’ classified as Premier Grand Cru to finish the whisky. Only 1000 bottles are being made available for $1,250 per bottle.

All three The Dalmore single malts in the Portfolio Series are being made available exclusively at travel retail venues.

Glenfarclas 2000 was bottled at 47.7% alcohol by volume [95.4 proof] and is contained in the usual Scottish made Glencairn crystal decanter.

Only 600 decanters of Glenfarclas 2000 are being made available for price points between $505 and $615.

Highland-based distillery The Dalmore has released a new limited single malt whisky series – The Distillery Select – which will feature rare whiskies from specific casks hand-selected by The Dalmore.

Three whiskies mark the debut of the series, led out by Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 single malt, matured for 15 years and finished in rare sherry casks from González Byass, then bottled at 52.8% alcohol by volume [105.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of apples, banana bread and cinnamon.

Only 2,736 bottles of The Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 are being made available for $295 per bottle.

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2007 single malt was matured for 17 years, finished in Italian Amarone and Port casks, bottled at 45.8% alcohol by volume [91.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of fruit and vanilla. Only a mere 383 bottles of The Dalmore Distillery Select 2007 are being made available for $1,315 per bottle.

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2000 single malt, was matured for 24 years, finished in French Calvados casks from the House of Drouin, bottled at 50.3% alcohol by volume [100.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of apples, licorice and pears.

Only 383 bottles of The Dalmore Distillery Select 2000 single malt are being made available for $6,585 per bottle.

Each of the limited edition whiskies will be available directly from The Dalmore – either from our boutiques, at the distillery, or online for a limited period in the UK.

The Dalmore Boutiques are now open in Madrid, Spain; Manila, Philippines; and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
