Suntory was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii who started making whisky at the Yamazaki distillery, near Kyoto, in Japan, Coppola directed the Tokyo-based “Lost in Translation” [which starred Bill Murray] and Reeves appeared in a 1992 promotion for Suntory Reserve.

Reeves is also participating in a series of documentary shorts directed by Sofia’s brother, Roman Coppola, called ‘The Nature and Spirit of Japan’, which will explore Japanese whisky culture inspired by ‘wa’ – the Japanese harmony of nature, as well as Japanese craftsmanship (monozukuri) and the Japanese way of hospitality (omotenashi).

The party does not stop there as Suntory is expected to launch several limited edition whiskies – Yamazaki 18 Years Old Mizunara and Hakushu 18 Years Old Peated Malt whiskies, as well as limited edition versions of Yamazaki 12 Years Old and Hakushu 12 Years Old – to commemorate the 100th birthday.
