Highland-based distillery, The Dalmore, has collaborated with design museum V&A Dundee on the Portfolio Series – a new whisky series designed to celebrate young Scottish artists. The first entry in the Portfolio Series comprises a trio of single malt whiskies. Edinburgh-based artist, Fraser Gray, was selected for this year’s edition, with his interpretation of The Dalmore distillery.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series No 1 (bottled at 46.8% alcohol by volume, 93.6 proof) was matured in Bordeaux wine casks and is said to contain notes of lemon, Manuka honey and vanilla. Only 5,000 bottles are being made available for $635 per bottle.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series No 2 (bottled at 46% alcohol by volume, 92 proof) was finished in casks from Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France and is said to offer notes of cranberry, licorice, ginger, pink grapefruit and vanilla. Only 2,000 bottles are being made available for $950 per bottle.

The Dalmore Portfolio Series No.3 is said to contain notes of bergamot, cedar and dark cacao and The Dalmore was granted access to an ‘iconic vineyard’ classified as Premier Grand Cru to finish the whisky. Only 1000 bottles are being made available for $1,250 per bottle.

All three The Dalmore single malts in the Portfolio Series are being made available exclusively at travel retail venues.

Highland distillery Glenfarclas added the third entry in their annual decanter series – a rare 24-year-old single malt that was filled on New Year’s Day at the turn of the millennium.

Glenfarclas 2000 was bottled at 47.7% alcohol by volume [95.4 proof] and is contained in the usual Scottish made Glencairn crystal decanter.

Only 600 decanters of Glenfarclas 2000 are being made available for price points between $505 and $615.

Highland-based distillery The Dalmore has released a new limited single malt whisky series – The Distillery Select – which will feature rare whiskies from specific casks hand-selected by The Dalmore.

Three whiskies mark the debut of the series, led out by Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 single malt, matured for 15 years and finished in rare sherry casks from González Byass, then bottled at 52.8% alcohol by volume [105.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of apples, banana bread and cinnamon.

Only 2,736 bottles of The Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 are being made available for $295 per bottle.

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2007 single malt was matured for 17 years, finished in Italian Amarone and Port casks, bottled at 45.8% alcohol by volume [91.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of fruit and vanilla. Only a mere 383 bottles of The Dalmore Distillery Select 2007 are being made available for $1,315 per bottle.

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2000 single malt, was matured for 24 years, finished in French Calvados casks from the House of Drouin, bottled at 50.3% alcohol by volume [100.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of apples, licorice and pears.

Only 383 bottles of The Dalmore Distillery Select 2000 single malt are being made available for $6,585 per bottle.

Each of the limited edition whiskies will be available directly from The Dalmore – either from our boutiques, at the distillery, or online for a limited period in the UK.

The Dalmore Boutiques are now open in Madrid, Spain; Manila, Philippines; and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Highland distillery Tomatin has released a limited edition trio of single malt whiskies which they are calling The Sherry Collection, using sherry butts of Manzanilla, Palo Cortado, and Pedro Ximénez (PX) sourced from Jerez in Spain in the maturation process.

Tomatin’s Manzanilla Edition was finished for two years in Manzanilla butts, bottled at 46% alcohol by volume (92 proof), is said to offer notes of grapefruit, maple and walnut and is being made available for $85 per bottle.

Tomatin’s Palo Cortado Edition was finished for three years in Palo Cortado butts, also bottled at 46% alcohol by volume (92 proof), is said to offer notes of milk chocolate, orange and toffee and is being made available for $125 per bottle.

Tomatin’s Pedro Ximénez Edition is the Collection’s creme de la creme, being finished for a whopping eight years in PX butts, again bottled at 46% alcohol by volume (92 proof), is said to offer notes of fig, lemon and toffee and is being made available for $195 per bottle.

Highland distillery Tomatin has released a trio of blended Scotch whiskies under their Antiquary label, which was purchased by Tomatin in 1996.

The whiskies consist of The Antiquary 15 Year Old, The Antiquary 21 Year Old and The Antiquary 30 Year Old – all made using a blend of Highland and Speyside malts with Lowland grains – the 15-year-old finished in Bordeaux red wine claret casks [with notes said to resemble ‘rhubarb, tamarind, raspberry and vanilla’], the 21-year-old finished in tawny Port casks sourced from Portugal [with notes said to suggest ‘spiced plum, wild strawberries, dark chocolate and orange’] and the 30-year-old was matured for more than three years in sherry casks sourced from Jerez in Spain with notes offered as ‘tropical fruits, smoked bacon and heather honey’. All three blended whiskies were bottled at 40% alcohol by volume [80 proof].

The Tomatin Antiquary range is being made available, per bottle, for $55 [15-year-old], $125 [21-year-old] and $350 for the 30-year-old.

The Dalmore has collaborated with Scottish design museum V&A Dundee and released a pair of whiskies – The Collectible and The Rare – for their Luminary Series.

The Dalmore The Rare is a 49-year-old Highland single malt and it lives up to its name as only three were created for the whisky matured in ex-bourbon American white oak casks, finished in a blend of Port Colhieta 1963, Apostoles Sherry, select bourbon and hybrid casks before being bottled at 40.6% alcohol by volume [81.2 proof].

The Dalmore The Collectible is a 16-year-old Highland single malt, which is more readily available [20,000 bottles] and was matured in ex-bourbon casks, finished in a blend of Graham’s Tawny Port and Apostoles Sherry casks, and partially finished in peated, ex-refill bourbon casks before being bottled at 48.6% alcohol by volume [97.2 proof] and will be available for $345 per bottle.

Balblair 21 Years Old was initially matured for 15 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, before being sent on its way to Oloroso sherry-seasoned Spanish oak butts for the remaining six years of its maturation process when it was then bottled at 46% alcohol by volume [92 proof] and is said to offer notes of dark chocolate, spice and tropical fruit.

Fettercairn 16-year-old was matured in ex-bourbon casks for 14 years, then spent two more years languishing in ex-tawny Port pipes from the Douro Valley in Portugal before being bottled at 46.4% alcohol by volume [92.8 proof] and is said to offer notes of almond, blackberry, cacao, cherry, ginger and plum.

Only 24,000 bottles of Fettercairn 16-year-old are being made available in France, Germandy and the UK for $105 per 700ml bottle.
