Bardstown Bourbon Company Armagnac Bourbon Whiskey

Bardstown Bourbon Co.releases their second iteration of the Collaborative Series with leading French Armagnac house Château de Laubade for 2022.

Bardstown tells BourbonBlog.com that The Château de Laubade Armagnac Collaborative Series release is presented at 107 proof (53.5% ABV) and offered at an SRP of $159.99.

Roughly 2,700 9L cases of the finished bourbon will be available through the Bardstown Bourbon Co. gift shop, and at retailers in 20 states.

We’ll bring you our review soon on BourbonBlog.com.

The initial collaboration was released in April 2020.

About The 2022 Château de Laubade Armagnac

The 2022 Château de Laubade Armagnac release includes a blend of 12-year Kentucky and 10-year Tennessee bourbon, finished in Laubade Armagnac casks for 16 months. Pictured below is Château de Laubade. Built in 1870, it is composed of 260 acres of continuous vineyards and is located in Sorbets d’Armagnac, France.

The finishing casks are aged from 16 – 24 months in different warehouse locations, bringing a contrast of wood extraction. Complexity, balance, and thoughtful innovation make this release both reminiscent of the award-winning first release while looking ahead to a wholly new sipping experience.

This custom bourbon blend accentuates the nuanced flavors from each barrel.

Chateau de Laubade France Armagnac

“It was important to us that this release be distinct from the original, while still bringing some of the same unique characteristics. The bold Kentucky bourbon really balances with oak that is bursting with the fiery Armagnac character. The Tennessee bourbon provides a hint of citrus, which highlights Laubade’s unique floral notes,” Dan Callaway, VP Product Development and Hospitality for Bardstown Bourbon Co tells BourbonBlog.com . “We’re always looking to push the boundaries of modern bourbon blending and this release is a beautiful expression of that.”

The release is evidence of a continued, strong creative partnership between Callaway and Château de Laubade’ Owner and Famille Lesgourgues Directeur Général, Denis Lesgourgues.

“I am very excited about this new launch as, since day one, I have seen so much product expertise, passion and involvement from the team of Bardstown Bourbon Co.,” said Lesgourgues. “Just as we are inventing the Armagnac of tomorrow thanks to our spirit of innovation, our fellows at BBCo are designing the modern bourbon.”

Jefferson’s Ocean New York Limited Edition Bourbon Whiskey: Cut To Proof With NY Water

Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea New York Bourbon Whiskey Limited Edition uses New York’s world-famous water to cut the Bourbon to 98 proof. Jeffersons Ocean Aged at Sea New York Bourbon Whiskey

Jefferson’s Bourbon will soon be releasing a new Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea New York Limited Edition that uses New York’s world-famous water to cut the Bourbon to 98 proof.

Jefferson’s tells BourbonBlog.com that this new, bold, and non-chill filtered Bourbon allows founder Trey Zoeller and his team to pay homage to New York state.

Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea New York Limited Edition is bottled at 49% ABV and will be available on shelves and at local NYC on-premise accounts starting November 2022 (SRP $99 /750mL).

About the New York Limited Edition Voyage

Prior to landing in New York and as part of the unique finishing technique for which the Jefferson’s Ocean series is known, the barrels of bourbon traveled through ports around the world, sailing through rough and smooth seas and experiencing a wide range of temperatures between the North Sea, Europe, the Atlantic Seaboard, and the Panama Canal.

When the barrels finished their voyage, they arrived at Manhattan’s first distillery since prohibition, where New York water was used to cut the bourbon to 98 proof and create this bold new liquid.

Why Are They Using New York Water?

Similar to Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea New York Limited Edition, New York’s famous water takes a journey all its own – traveling from the Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountains that are as far north as 125 miles from the city.

The water’s soft, almost salty quality has been known to add flavor and texture, and even “strengthen” the foods and beverages it’s added to, and bourbon is no different.

New York Water

The combination of non-chill filtering, New York’s water, and the journey our barrels took to get here created a bourbon that contains layered flavors: textured caramel, cigar, and leather on the nose, cinnamon mid-palette, and a Crème Brûlée, nutmeg, salty finish.

“Like New Yorkers themselves, the city’s water has a magical quality about it. Inspired by legendary foods that are made tastier because of New York water – world-famous bagels, pizza, and doughnuts – I thought it would be interesting to experiment with it and see what effect it would have on this Kentucky-born product,” Zoeller tells BourbonBlog.com

“Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea New York Limited Edition contains beautiful depth; it found its sense of adventure out at sea and developed layers of flavor enhanced not only by the aged-at-sea process – the constant motion of the water, the climate, salty sea air, and barrel agitation – but also by the excellent quality of New York’s water and that it’s non-chill filtered. All of this helped to yield a much bolder whiskey that reflects the boldness of the city in which it was finished,” says Zoeller.

IS THIS PIZZA MADE WITH THE FAMOUS NEW YORK WATER?

Not quite, but close. As a side but very relevant note. BourbonBlog.com founder Tom Fischer is a fan of New York and New Jersey pizza.

As Fischer has been hosting Bourbon tastings more and more on the East Coast, he has been sharing some of his favorite New York pizzas.

About the Woodford Reserve Honey Barrel Finish Bourbon Whiskey

Woodford Reserve Distillery loaned some of its freshly-dumped bourbon barrels to a local honey bee farmer in Woodford County. That farmer then aged his honey in the barrels.

The barrels were later returned to Woodford Reserve Distillery where they were refilled with bourbon to create the perfect subtly sweet liquid.

The result is this whiskey which has a  beautiful raw honey color, and floral and toasty notes including honey suckle, lemon peel, toasted coconut and honey graham cracker.

“One of the best parts of my job is being able to experiment with new ways of making Woodford Reserve,” Master Distiller Chris Morris tells BourbonnBlog.con. “It’s been rewarding to work with a honey producer here in Woodford County to create this unique Distillery Series expression and support local business and agriculture.”

Honey Barrel Finish is part of Woodford Reserve’s Distillery Series, which Morris created to push Woodford Reserve’s creative boundaries of whiskeys to the extreme.

Each selection is masterminded by Morris and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall and is available for purchase at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and limited Kentucky retailers.

There are three annual releases of the Distillery Series.

15-Year at 130.6 Proof:  3,500 bottles, only in KENTUCKY, ILLINOIS and OHIO

The first 2022 expression is a 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon, featuring a premium embossed label with a stamp border and details.

Brown-Forman acquired the brand in 1936 from Selected Kentucky Distillers and, by 1940, converted it to a blended whiskey until it was discontinued in 1968. In 2018, Brown-Forman revived the label paying homage to the brand’s past.

Chris Morris Bourbon

For this year’s iteration, Master Distiller Chris Morris chose two lots of barrels to set aside for the limited-release product– one from 2004, the second from 2006.

“This year’s releases come from two production days, two years apart,” Chris Morris tells BourbonBlog.com. “This showcases what a difference two years at these extreme ages make on the color, flavor, and aroma of this wonderful whiskey.”

Every bottle comes enclosed in a decorative tin canister and tells the story of its origin through the details on the front and back of its package.

All are filled, bottled, wax-dipped, and numbered by hand with details including proof, age, warehouse location, lot number, serial number, and barrel number, all selected by Master Distiller Chris Morris.
