Dwight Yoakam is a legendary country music artist, one of the most well respected performers in all of entertainment.
Come July 1st, you have the chance to see him perform at the brand new venue, The Ampat Dant Crossing. An intimate, first class amphitheater smack dab in the middle of God’s country. We mean that literally in a sense as it’s just down the road from the Trappist monk monastery community Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani.
The amphitheater sits on the gorgeous 300+ acre campus of the dream turned reality Log Still Distillery in New Haven, KY, just outside Bardstown and founded by family members J.W. “Wally” Dant III, Lynne Dant, and Charles Dant (all cousins of the Bourbon Royalty “Dant” tree).
Bring your appetite with you as the show is all part of the Summer Supper Series, hosted by Log Still’s highly decorated Executive Chef David Danielson, formerly of Churchill Downs (Home of The Kentucky Derby). Put it this way, he knows how to feed a crowd.
It’s buffet style eating at The Legacy entertainment venue, a brand new colossal event center within an easy walk of the show.
If you book now, you won’t even have to worry about driving home as their are a number of lovely B&B rooms on the property. Want to see a performing legend in a beautiful outdoor venue on a stunning new distillery campus? This is your ticket!

When it’s sweltering hot outside, we’re talking painfully hot here, is there anything more nostalgically soothing than a good ole ice cold Coca-Cola? If you’re of age, the answer is, well, YES. One that has a little kick to it:)
The timing of this news release couldn’t be more ideal as the US suffers through the current blazing heatwave.
Louisville, KY headquartered liquor giant Brown-Forman has just announced its partnership with the American iconic soft drink maker for the timeless classic “Jack and Coke” RTD (Ready-To-Drink).
Officially called “Jack Daniel’s & Coca-Cola RTD“, the canned alcoholic beverage is made with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and Coca-Cola. It will typically have 5% alcohol by volume, but that will vary depending on country. A Zero Sugar version of the drink will also be available.
“This relationship brings together two classic American icons to deliver consumers a taste experience they love in a way that is consistent, convenient, and portable,” Lawson Whiting, CEO and President of Brown-Forman Corporation. “Brown-Forman has been a leader in the ready-to-drink category since we launched our first Jack Daniel’s RTD more than 30 years ago. Coca-Cola perfectly complements Jack Daniel’s and our existing RTD offerings, enabling us to accelerate expansion and continue to grow our business around the world.”
It’s scheduled to hit Mexico later this year and the US in 2023. Per CNN Business, the initial launch market south of the border was chosen as both brands are popular in Mexico and the RTD sector is firmly established.
Chattanooga Whiskey releases their Chattanooga Whiskey Bottled in Bond Vintage Series Spring 2018 Vintage release crafted at their Riverfront Distillery in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is a single-season, vintage-dated expression of their original Tennessee High Malt style Bourbon Whiskey.
Chattanooga Whiskey tells BourbonBlog.com they’ve released their Bottled in Bond Vintage Series: Spring 2018 Vintage. The series is exclusively crafted at their Riverfront Distillery in Chattanooga, Tenneneese, is a single-season, vintage-dated expression of their Tennessee High Malt style.
Bottled in Bond: Spring 2018 Vintage will be available at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery and across TN, GA, FL, TX, IL, IN, SC, LA, KY, AL, and CO at a suggested retail price of $52.99 for a 750ml bottle.
Of course, to be labeled Bottled in Bond, bourbon must be the product of one distillation season, one distiller, and from one distillery. Legally, it must be aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.
Barreled January through June 2018, Chattanooga Whiskey’s Spring 2018 Vintage is crafted from a selection of four unique high malt bourbon mash bills – all made within the same distilling season – and each composed of at least 25% specialty malted grains. A result is an innovative approach to one of the industry’s most time-honored quality standards.
“Our Spring 2018 blend includes a small percentage of a new recipe to the series: R18016. Made with approximately 20% minimally dried ‘green’ malt in its mash bill, this delicate recipe added a lovely, light complexity to the blend,” Grant McCracken, Head Distiller tells us.

After seven years of playing a key leadership role in the renaissance of Old Forester, Master Taster Jackie Zykan announced today she is stepping away to pursue other career opportunities.
Her last day with Old Forester and Brown-Forman is July 1.
“In the summer of 2015, I joined Brown-Forman to be a part of the reinvigoration of what continues to be one of the best-kept secrets in the bourbon world,” Zykan said. “I have been honored to be part of a team that has revived the legacy of Old Forester, and I look forward to witnessing the next chapters of Old Forester from afar. I am excited for my personal and professional journey ahead.”
During her tenure, Zykan helped return Old Forester to prominence in the spirits industry and among consumers. She helped lead the brand’s innovation and premiumization strategy, culminating as the first woman in Old Forester history to have her name on the bottle as part of the 117 Distillery Series that debuted in 2021.
“Jackie Zykan’s leadership helped grow this storied, historic brand to become, once again, a beloved bourbon among consumers and bartenders,” said Mark Bacon, senior vice president and managing director of Super Premium American Whiskey at Brown-Forman. “We wish her great success in her next venture.”

This new whiskey from Irish Distillers is a special bottling to commemorate the 135th anniversary of partners Mitchell & Son entering the whisky bonding business. The iconic Irish wine and spirits merchant has worked alongside the company on their Spot single pot still range, where they traditionally matured whiskeys in vaults under the streets of Dublin. The Gold Spot has been aged for a minimum of nine years. It features an intriguing marriage of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks with ex-Bordeaux red wine barrels and ex-Port pipes. The Gold Spot 9 years old is released at 51.4% ABV (102.8 Proof) in a historical hat tip to whiskies from Mitchell's archive.
The Gold Spot joins the four core expressions in the Spot Whiskeys range. For many years since the 1960s, Green Spot was the only bottling on sale. This has now been joined by the Yellow Spot 12 years old in 2012, Red Spot 15 years old in 2018 and Blue Spot 7 years old in 2020. The names refer to coloured spots that were painted on maturing barrels in the Mitchell & Son bonded warehouse in Dublin. Each colour signified a different age of whiskey.
The Gold Spot 9 years old was unveiled at Whisky Live Dublin last week (June 10) and is available now via www.spotwhiskey.com and from Mitchell & Son stores in Ireland. Limited distribution across selected world markets will take place from mid-July. These include France, the UK, the USA and travel retail. The exact number of bottles has not been revealed. Each will cost €120/ £105/ $126 US.
Our tasting notes
The colour is deep gold and the nose is highly fragrant and packed with fruity aromas. Peach and apricot mingle with caramelised pineapple and red apple. These are joined by further aromas of golden syrup, honey and vanilla sugar. Pinches of cinnamon, powdered ginger and white pepper along with a suggestion of orange zest round things off nicely.
The nose is very enticing and the palate does not disappoint. It is a little hot and peppery to begin with but once this subsides the whiskey is delicious. The juicy tropical fruits are again at the forefront - think of peach patisserie and apricot jam married with caramelised pineapple and juicy sultanas. It feels like a heady combination. Crisp red apple and some milk chocolate also sit in the background. Further sweetness is added with a lovely note of golden syrup and runny honey.
Structure is provided by robust underlying cereal notes and a building savoury quality. A malty and biscuit-like characteristic underpins this and it is joined by gripping notes of freshly sawn oak, baking spices and hints of dried tobacco leaf and gingerbread. Further hints of custard powder, vanilla and burnt caramel come through later.
The finish is long and becomes more peppery and woody with time. The juicy fruits and sweeter elements slowly fade to give these savoury characteristics the opportunity to shine. The malty biscuit-like notes also hold themselves together to give great depth and complexity.
What's the verdict?
The Gold Spot 9 years old is delicious. Simply put it is a great addition to the Spot family of whiskeys, albeit a limited one. If you like your Irish whiskeys big, bold and expressive then this is for you. The fruitiness and sweetness are well integrated with the more savoury, woody and spicy notes. The result is a multi-layered tasting experience that gives something new almost everytime that you take a sip. Grab a dram or a bottle when you can and before it disappears. Superb and sublime.
