Highland-based The Macallan has released The Reach – an 81-year-old whisky, they are claiming to be the world’s oldest single malt Scotch.
The Macallan The Reach was matured in a single sherry-seasoned oak cask, bottled at 41.6% alcohol by volume [83.2 proof] and is said to contain notes of cinnamon, dark chocolate, ginger and pineapple.
The Macallan The Reach is claimed to be the world’s oldest single malt Scotch, surpassing an 80-year-old Gordon & MacPhail whisky released in 2021.
Only 288 decanters of The Macallan’s The Reach are being made available and – not too surprisingly – they are quite spendy at a whopping $125,000 per decanter.
For those who find themselves not quite that wealthy, you can get a glimpse of The Macallan’s The Reach when it will be on display at The Macallan Estate Boutique, followed by the brand’s Boutique stores in domestic and travel retail venues.
