Fairly well structured, displays some youthful spirit as you would expect for 3-4 year old whisky. There was more than a hint of cardboard I associate with STR casks added to the woody element here. This has clearly been well put together from the cask selection to final product. I'd be interested to see how Nc'nean improves with age. 83/100

Islay distillery, Bruichladdich, has released a trio of single malts – Bruichladdich Organic Barley 2011, Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2012 and Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 – to complete their unpeated 2022 Barley Exploration series.

Bruichladdich Organic Barley 2011 is made with 100% Scottish barley cultivated at Mid Coul farm in Inverness, and has been farmed without the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides and is said to contain notes of cantaloupe, crème brulée, lemon, pear and vanilla.

Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2012 uses Bere barley, an ancient grain dating back to approximately 4,500 years ago, was matured for 10 years in first fill ex-bourbon casks and is said to contain notes of green apples, honeysuckle, lime and vanilla.

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 uses barley grown only on Islay, was matured in both first-fill American and second-fill European casks and is said to contain notes of apple, honey and marzipan.

Bruichladdich Organic Barley 2011, Bere Barley 2012 and Islay Barley 2013 are all being made available for $75 per bottle.

Organic whisky distillery, Nc’nean, has released the Huntress 2022 – a single malt that is the first of their new spring series – named after the ‘queen of spirits’, Neachneohain.

Nc’nean Huntress 2022 features the use of three different yeast varieties and one of those yeast strains – Distila Max RM – is typically used in the production of rum production.

Nc’nean Huntress 2022 was aged for three years in a combination of STR-red wine and ex-bourbon oak casks, bottled at 48.5% alcohol by volume [97 proof] and is said to contain notes of tropical fruits.

In 2021, Nc’nean became the first whisky distillery in the UK to be verified as having net zero carbon emissions from their own operations.

Only 4,447 bottles of Nc’nean The Huntress 2022 are being made available in the UK on ncnean.com for $110 per bottle, with an expected release later in the year to Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden.
