O’Shaughnessy Distilling master distiller Brian Nation arrived in Minneapolis nearly three years ago after leaving Ireland’s Midleton Distillery, and it’s been an interesting transition. Nikka Arrives In The UK Next Month

Japan-based whiskymaker, Nikka, will release their Discovery 2022 whiskies in the UK in February 2023 after having already debuted those whiskies in Japan in September 2022. The Discovery series was launched in 2021.

Arriving in the UK next month will be Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Aromatic Yeast (48% alcohol by volume – 96 proof) and Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Aromatic Yeast (47% alcohol by volume – 94 proof).

Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Aromatic Yeast is said to offer floral, fruit and herbal notes while Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Aromatic Yeast is said to offer notes of lavender, marshmallow and stone fruits.

Only 4,800 bottles of each Nikka whisky have been released in Europe and will launch in select UK retailers next month for $300 per 700ml bottle.

Japan-based Nikka has released a pair of limited edition whiskies – Yoichi Single Malt Aromatic Yeast and Miyagikyo Single Malt Aromatic Yeast – as part of their new Discovery series, each highlighting aromas during the fermentation process.

Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Aromatic Yeast showcases aroma reminiscent of ginjyo sake [according to Nikka] and was bottled at 48% alcohol by volume [96 proof].

Nikka claims that Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Aromatic Yeast offers aromas of apricot and peach and was bottled at 47% alcohol by volume [94 proof].

Only 20,000 bottles of both Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Aromatic Yeast as well as Nikka Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast are being made available worldwide for $275 per bottle.

Teeling 30 year old, Bowmore Masters’ Selection, & More [New Whiskies]

Plus, new versions of Yoichi and Miyagikyo from Nikka, and a limited edition Baker’s single barrel from Jim Beam.

WhiskyFest season has been in full swing, starting with Big Smoke Meets WhiskyFest in Hollywood, Florida October 30, rolling into Chicago on November 5th, and drawing a big crowd in New York last night. The final WhiskyFest for 2021 will be held in San Francisco on December 3rd. Tickets are still available for a night that will feature pours from Ardbeg, Dewar’s, Four Roses, Glendalough, Redbreast, Westward, and many more.

As for this week’s new whiskies, Teeling adds a 30 year old to its Vintage collection, Bowmore connects with Aston Martin for a new expression, Nikka unveils new versions of its Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts, and Jim Beam announces a special edition Baker’s just in time for the holidays.
