Speyside distiller, The Macallan – with some assistance from Scottish rock group Simple Minds [of “Breakfast Club” fame] and narrator Johnathan Pryce [“Brazil”, “The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen”, “Glengarry Glen Ross”, “Tomorrow Never Dies” and “The Pirates of the Caribbean”] has released an eight-minute short film celebrating Janet ‘Nettie’ Harbinson, the woman behind their 1926 single malt whisky, called “The Spirit of 1926”.
The film tells the real-life story of The Macallan’s former managing director Janet ‘Nettie’ Harbinson played by Emily Mortimer [“Mary Poppins Returns”] who created The Macallan Fine & Rare 1926, which went on to be the ‘most valuable bottle of wine or spirit ever sold at auction’ ($1.7 million) at Sotheby’s auction house in 2019.
