James Saxon took on the role as chief whisky maker for Compass Box following founder John Glaser’s sudden departure several weeks ago. UK-based whisky bottler/producer Compass Box has released Metropolis, the third of an expected four entries in their limited edition Extinct Blends Quartet series, which celebrates blends that have been ‘lost to history’.

Compass Box Metropolis initially spent time in sherry casks, was bottled at 49% alcohol by volume [98 proof] and is said to offer notes of dried fruit, hot metal and smoke.

Metropolis joins the previously released Ultramarine and Delos in the Extinct Blends Quartet series.

Compass Box Metropolis is being made available beginning on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 via the official website [www.compassboxwhisky.com], for $325 per bottle.

Compass Box Reveals Ultramarine, Flaming Heart

Compass Box has released Ultramarine and Flaming Heart 2022 – a pair of limited edition whiskies, Flaming Heart 2022 and Ultramarine – with Flaming Heart being named after a song of the same name by American singer, M Ward.

Compass Box Flaming Heart 2022 is a blend of malt whiskies from the Highland distilleries of Caol Ila, Laphroaig and Talisker, which has then been matured for at least five years in custom French oak barrels, bottled at 48.9% alcohol by volume [97.8 proof] and is said to contain notes of oak, peat and smoke.

Compass Box Ultramarine is the initial entry in a new series of blended whiskies being called Extinct Blends Quartet.

Compass Box Ultramarine is a composition of whiskies from the Brora, Port Ellen and Rosebank distilleries and Port Ellen, matured in sherry casks, bottled at 51% alcohol by volume [102 proof] and is said to contain notes of raisin, toffee and vanilla.

Only 5,982 bottles of Compass Box Ultramarine are being made available in October 2022 for $350 per bottle while only 9,606 bottles of Flaming Heart 2022 are being made available for $155 per bottle in September 2022.
