Bourbon with Heart, Kentucky’s first and only arts-focused Bourbon charity, is launching a first-of-its-kind art exhibition, NOW OPEN, at the Frazier History Museum in Louisville, KY.
Open to the public February 2 to March 30, Barrels of Heartwill occupy space on the third floor of the Frazier. On display will be twenty custom Bourbon barrels designed by local artists of varying ages, ethnicities, and levels of experience.
The mission of Bourbon with Heart is to leverage the influence and popularity of Kentucky’s most iconic spirit—Bourbon—to raise funds, awareness, and education around our local art community. The organization is committed to providing better access and delivering first-class arts experiences to every person in Kentucky—regardless of age, race, class, gender, or ability.
“Art is like a good glass of Bourbon: it brings people together and encourages self-expression,” Bourbon with Heart founder Morgan Hancock said. Hancock is also the curator of Barrels of Heart.
“I started Barrels of Heart with the goal of creating a space for local artists to showcase their work, particularly those artists who may not always have that opportunity. Our artists come from all walks of life, perspectives, and experiences—but the one thing they have in common is a love for Kentucky. And each one has poured that love into their piece.”
Twenty local artists were provided a barrel and a supply budget to bring their art to life. Exhibition attendees will vote on their favorite barrel design and the winning artist will be awarded a cash prize along with a donation to a charity of their choice. The remaining proceeds will be donated to area nonprofits.
Each barrel in the exhibition is also sponsored by local companies and Bourbon brands who are committed to supporting Bourbon with Heart and Louisville’s art community. Sponsors include Buzzard’s Roost Sipping Whiskeys, Mercedes-Benz of Louisville, Heaven’s Door Whiskey, Humana, Old Louisville Whiskey Co., Barrell Craft Spirits, BIGGBY Coffee, CaskX, and many others.
The twenty barrels featured are installed throughout The Spirit of Kentucky®, a permanent exhibition located on the third floor of the Frazier. Opened in 2018, The Spirit of Kentucky® highlights the history, craft, and culture of Bourbon whiskey, America’s native spirit.

Fred Noe is the 7th generation Master Distiller at Jim Beam, direct descendant of where the Beam Dynasty all started with Gen I creator, Jacob Beam (1760 – 1834). Fred is a Master Storyteller and is in the top guard of most respected names in the industry. To spend an evening with him is a joy that goes beyond words.
This special event includes a multi-course dinner with featured Bourbons and exclusive access to purchase limited time Bourbons traditionally not sold daily to the public. TICKETS ARE LIMITED. It is already approaching sell out.
Kitchen Table is a gorgeous new concept with a stunning view of the Clermont countryside, the name inspired by the unbound shared family meals and barrel strength-esque bonds that were formed around the Noe family gatherings. If only those walls could talk:)

Today marked a very special occasion at Buffalo Trace Distillery – rolling out the 8,000,000th barrel of whiskey since Prohibition.
As Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley put it, “Through floods, The Depression, recessions, one thing has remained constant – us making whiskey.” Dangit, if that doesn’t get your blood fired up, I’m not sure what else we can do for you.
And unlike previous milestones which took an average of 12 years to achieve, the eighth millionth barrel comes just four years after the seventh millionth barrel (filled in 2018), due to the $1.2 billion expansion efforts at the Distillery over the last several years. On hand to mark the occasion was Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Kentucky Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer and Buffalo Trace Distillery officials, including third generation team member Freddie Johnson whose family has been involved in every millionth barrel since 1942.
“Over the past few years, we’ve doubled our fermenters, added more grain cookers and more barrel warehouses, all in an effort to make more bourbon,” said Harlen Wheatley, master distiller. “We’ve filled a record number of barrels every year, as evidenced by how fast we moved from the seventh millionth barrel to the eighth millionth barrel. Now that we have our new still house starting up, we’ll be able to double the output of our whiskey production, so we’re going to be reaching 9 million barrels before you know it!”
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear added, “I am thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone with Buffalo Trace Distillery. This company has more than 200 years of history in our state, providing quality jobs for Kentuckians and producing our world-famous bourbon. Thank you to the leaders at Buffalo Trace for their continued commitment to the commonwealth and our people. Here’s to 200 more years of success in our state.”
As Governor Beshear spoke today at a ceremony at Buffalo Trace Distillery, the attendees looked on as third generation Buffalo Trace team member Freddie Johnson carried on his father’s legacy by rolling the eighth millionth barrel into Warehouse V, the world’s smallest bonded barrel warehouse. Joining Freddie on the ceremonial barrel roll was his teenage grandson, marking four generations from the Johnson family to have a hand in the milestone barrels filled at Buffalo Trace. Johnson’s late father Jimmy Johnson, a former warehouse supervisor, played a key role in each millionth barrel produced at Buffalo Trace since Prohibition.
“Reflecting back on the history of this Distillery, the progress we’ve made over the past few decades is astounding, but even more impressive is the dedication and longevity of so many of our team members. We have many second and third generation team members here, and several members of our workforce who have been here 20, 30, some even closing in on 40 years with us!” said Mark Brown, president and chief executive officer, Buffalo Trace Distillery. “It’s this commitment to their craft that not only sets us apart but positions us perfectly for future growth as we continue our focus on producing more award-winning bourbon for future generations to enjoy.”
Buffalo Trace’s seventh millionth barrel of bourbon, barreled in April of 2018, has been removed from Warehouse V and put away to continue aging in one of Buffalo Trace’s larger warehouses. After a few more years, it will be ready to bottle and will be offered to various nonprofit organizations for fundraising efforts. Information about how to apply for a bottle will be announced at that time.

We all love a good party, right? Even better, a good block party, right? Even better, a good block party that boasts a CHOCOLATE PRETZEL BOURBON BALL IMPERIAL STOUT, right?!! Now this sounds like our kind of gathering, and it’s all going down this Friday and Saturday (Dec 2nd – 3rd) in Northern Kentucky’s river city of Covington.
meetNKY (the Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau) and The B-Line® (a collection of Bourbon Trail distilleries and bourbon forward bars and restaurants in Northern Kentucky) have partnered with Braxton Brewing Co. for the brewery’s famous Dark Charge event. The winter block party takes place from 3 – 11 p.m. Friday, December 2 and 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Saturday, December 3.
The organizations have partnered on a limited-edition Dark Charge variant, Chocolate Pretzel Bourbon Ball Imperial Stout, which is ONLY AVAILABLE for purchase onsite during the now two-day event. Bourbon aficionados and beer enthusiasts alike can enjoy this rich, imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels from three distillers along The B-Line® – Old Pogue Distillery, New Riff Distilling and Boone County Distillery – finished off with hints of cacao nibs and pretzels.
“This year’s Dark Charge event is a full-on, two-day collision of beer and bourbon,” said co-founder and CEO of Braxton, Jake Rouse. “There’s no surprise that the crossover between bourbon and craft beer is a quickly emerging trend, so when we approached our annual Bourbon Barrel Aged beer release Dark Charge we knew we wanted to play into this crossover. Additionally, partnering with meetNKY and The B-Line® on this event allows us to fully showcase all that our region has to offer on a national level.”
Attendees
will also be able to enjoy the new B-Line® Lounge in the brewery’s
loft space during the event. All three distillers will have booths in the
lounge where they’ll be pulling bourbon tastings from the barrel and serving
them alongside another holiday staple – bourbon balls.
“Nothing speaks to the uniqueness of our region like a fusion of bourbon and beer,” said Jay Erisman, co-founder of New Riff Distilling. “We’re excited to partner with Braxton on this limited-edition B-Line® brew and to tap into the beer enthusiasts who are curious to learn more about bourbon.”

2022, Braxton plans to release seven variants of its beloved Dark Charge

Kentucky Derby Museum is hosting a Bourbon Charity Raffle with THREE PRIZES for three lucky winners. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, with a small portion of proceeds supporting the Kentucky Derby Museum.
The three prized Bourbon collections are valued at over $58,000, with the grand prize consisting of an impressive six-bottle lineup of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon.
At the heart of the raffle is three-year-old Wyatt Perdue, who is living with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe. In 2021, his father, Nathan Perdue, approached the Kentucky Derby Museum with the idea of raffling off his prized Pappy collection, in hopes that teaming up would bring more awareness and funding to find a cure.
By combining forces, Perdue and the Kentucky Derby Museum raised $400,000 in 2021, with the vast majority of that money going to lifesaving research.

What is Julian’s Favorite Pick of The Pappy Litter?
When Julian Van Winkle III heard about the raffle, he agreed to sign the bottles. “I like to joke that me signing them makes them less valuable, but I can understand if it’s me or my son signing the bottles that it makes them a little more special, I’m glad to do it,” he said.
“While we didn’t start out with charity in mind,” said Van Winkle, “I feel really blessed that organizations all over the country can auction these whiskey bottles off and can raise a tremendous amount of money, it makes it all just great.”
As far as his favorite bottle in the Kentucky Derby Museum lineup, Van Winkle says it’s the 15-year.
“It’s got more intensity, a lot more flavor than the younger ones, and it’s not as oaky and maybe as much of the woodiness as the older ones have, which are more sippin’ whiskeys, which this one you can drink with some ice with a twist of lemon, or in a cocktail – yes – in a cocktail! Don’t be shy to put good whiskey in a cocktail.”– Julian VW III
