Fortuna Bourbon Review

Fortuna Bourbon is brought to us by the folks at Rare Character, now joined by Andy Shapira. Yes, that Shapira. Andy is from the same Shapira family that owns Heaven Hill. So the pedigree behind this bourbon is a strong one. It is aged at least 6 years and is from an undisclosed Kentucky distillery, or possibly distilleries. Finally, it is a blend of 6 barrels. Evan Williams 12 Year Bourbon

The Evan Williams Aged 12 Years used to be sold only in Japan as an export-only product. However, you can now find the bourbon at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in Louisville, the only place in the country that makes the 12-year available. It’s an easy drinker that I wish was more widely available. Read our review to learn more!

Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey

Shenk’s Homestead honors John Shenk, who founded a distillery in 1783 that would later become Michter’s. It’s a limited-production release shrouded by a little mystery. This is a “high rye” whiskey that doesn’t make its mash bill public. The 2021 release’s aging process uses barrels made from Chinquapin Oak trees. Some use the oak as proof that Shenk’s can’t possibly be bourbon. It could be that the mash bill has less than 51% corn, which would knock it out of the bourbon sphere. Learn more about Shenk’s Homestead 2021 release in our review!

Knob Creek 12 Year Bourbon

Knob Creek 12 Year Old Bourbon was first released back in 2019 as a limited edition, but became a permanent member of the Knob Creek line in 2020. It was initially released at 100 proof, similar to their flagship 9 year bourbon. Interestingly, at the time of Knob 12 Year’s release, the flagship bourbon had no age statement. Beam removed it back in 2016 citing shortages of 9 year old whiskey, but then brought it back in 2020. Also, to add to the confusion, their was a brief limited release of Knob Creek 12 year at cask strength back in the Fall of 2020. So how is the Knob Creek 12 Year Old Bourbon? Read our review and find out!
