Johnnie Walker has collaborated with luxury skiwear designer Perfect Moment for the launch of their limited edition blended whisky, Blue Label Ice Chalet.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet is inspired by ‘Blue Hour’ – the moment between sunset and twilight on the slopes when skiing turns to apres-skiing.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet was created with a whisky blend from high altitude distilleries such as Brora, Clynelish and Dalwhinnie and is said to offer notes of cinnamon-spiced apple, cloves and “Alpine smoke.”

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet is also the second entry in the Cobalt series – following last year’s Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet will offer a series of luxury ‘Blue Hour’ experiences at popular ski destinations in Deer Valley, Utah and Niseko, Japan, throughout the ski season.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet is being made available worldwide for $350 per bottle.

Highland distillery Tomatin has released a trio of blended Scotch whiskies under their Antiquary label, which was purchased by Tomatin in 1996.

The whiskies consist of The Antiquary 15 Year Old, The Antiquary 21 Year Old and The Antiquary 30 Year Old – all made using a blend of Highland and Speyside malts with Lowland grains – the 15-year-old finished in Bordeaux red wine claret casks [with notes said to resemble ‘rhubarb, tamarind, raspberry and vanilla’], the 21-year-old finished in tawny Port casks sourced from Portugal [with notes said to suggest ‘spiced plum, wild strawberries, dark chocolate and orange’] and the 30-year-old was matured for more than three years in sherry casks sourced from Jerez in Spain with notes offered as ‘tropical fruits, smoked bacon and heather honey’. All three blended whiskies were bottled at 40% alcohol by volume [80 proof].

The Tomatin Antiquary range is being made available, per bottle, for $55 [15-year-old], $125 [21-year-old] and $350 for the 30-year-old.

UK-based The Lost Distillery Company has released a pair of blended whiskies – Lossit 27 Year Old and Towiemore 25 Year Old – featuring flavor profiles created to mirror former distilleries in the Speyside and Islay regions. The Lost Distillery Company’s Lossit 27 Year Old was bottled at 47.3% alcohol by volume [94.6 proof] and is said to offer notes of chocolate, leather, oak and smoke.

The Lost Distillery Company’s Towiemore 25 Year Old was bottled at 52.1% alcohol by volume [104.2 proof] and is said to offer notes of almond, Madeira cake and sherry.

Only 210 bottles of The Lost Distillery Company’s Lossit 27 Year Old are being made available for $660 per bottle.

Only 330 bottles of The Lost Distillery Company’s Towiemore 25 Year Old are being made available for $520 per bottle.

Kentucky blending house Barrell Craft Spirits has rolled out the Barrell Bourbon blends – a pair of blended bourbons with different cask finishes – for their new Barrell Bourbon Cask Finish series which will feature two blends each year.

Barrell Craft Spirits Amburana Bourbon is a blend of select Indiana and Kentucky-made bourbons with a quartet of Indiana bourbons aged for five, six, seven, and 10 years combined with a single Kentucky bourbon aged for five years, a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, finished for one-to-two months in Amburana casks, bottled at 58.21% alcohol by volume [116.42 proof] and is said to offer notes of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and vanilla.

Barrell Craft Spirits Tale of Two Islands blends a trio of Indiana bourbons [aged for five, six, and nine years, respectively] with a duo of Maryland bourbons aged five and six years, has a mash bill of 73% corn, 23% rye, and 4% malted barley, finished in rum casks for four to six months, bottled at 59.11% alcohol by volume [118.22 proof] and is said to offer notes of coconut and doughnut.

Both Barrell Craft Spirits Cask Finish Series blended bourbons are being made available for $90 per bottle via the official BCS website [barrelbourbon.com].

UK-based whisky bottler/producer Compass Box has released Metropolis, the third of an expected four entries in their limited edition Extinct Blends Quartet series, which celebrates blends that have been ‘lost to history’.

Compass Box Metropolis initially spent time in sherry casks, was bottled at 49% alcohol by volume [98 proof] and is said to offer notes of dried fruit, hot metal and smoke.

Metropolis joins the previously released Ultramarine and Delos in the Extinct Blends Quartet series.

Compass Box Metropolis is being made available beginning on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 via the official website [www.compassboxwhisky.com], for $325 per bottle.

Old school brand Chivas Regal has created a new blend – Chivas Regal 13 Irish Whiskey Cask – that includes some Irish whiskey in the mix.

Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask is a traditional Chivas Regal blend of Scotch whiskies but with the added twist of a portion of the blend being finished for an undisclosed amount of time in unnamed Irish whiskey casks

Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask was bottled at 40% alcohol by volume [80 proof] and is said to contain notes of honey, red apple and spice.

However, there is one caveat – Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask is only being made available in worldwide travel retail venues.

Scotland-based Wemyss Malts has released a small batch blended Scotch whisky, finished in ex-Madeira wine casks, called Nectar Grove.

Wemyss Malts Nectar Grove is a blend of single malts filled into hand-selected ex-Madeira wine casks, bottled at 46% alcohol by volume [92 proof] and is said to offer notes of apricots, ginger, nectarines, oranges, peaches, saffron and vanilla.

Only 3,000 bottles of Wemyss Malts Nectar Grove are being made available for $70 per bottle via the Wemyss Malts official website, to Canada, Germany and the UK.
